BENTON, Ill. (CN) - Tom Lakin's plea agreement has been put on hold indefinitely. Lakin, a prominent St. Louis attorney, was indicted by a federal grand jury on sex and drug charges.
On Thursday, Judge J. Phil Gilbert rejected a deal that would have sent Lakin to prison for six years and ordered him to pay $525,000 in restitution in exchange for dropping the sex charges. Both sides said they believed they could work out a deal by Monday. Now, probation officials will prepare a pre-sentence investigation that will include a sex-offender evaluation of Lakin. Neither side had a comment after the hearing on Monday.
