Three Convicted for L.A. Wildfire

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A third man was convicted Thursday of setting an illegal campfire in January that turned into the Colby Fire, which burned 1,700 acres and destroyed five homes in and around Glendora.

A jury convicted Jonathan Carl Jarrell, 24, of unlawfully setting timber afire, a felony, and illegally setting a fire, a misdemeanor.

Two other defendants were convicted a week ago, both of one felony and three misdemeanors. They are Clifford Eugene Henry Jr., 22, of Glendora, and Steven Robert Aguirre, 21.

All three men were arrested by Glendora police who saw them escaping from the fire. They admitted setting a campfire that spread into the hills above Glendora, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Jarrell faces up to 5½ years at his July 31 sentencing.

Henry and Aguirre face up to 6½ years each when they are sentenced on Aug. 4.

Glendora is in the Los Angeles Basin.
