Three Charged in L.A. Wildfire

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Three Southern Californians were criminally charged Tuesday with starting the 2,000-acre Colby wildfire in Glendora by building an illegal campfire while Santa Ana winds were blowing.

The Colby Fire burned more than 1,700 acres, destroyed five houses and damages 17 more in its first day, Jan. 16. The three defendants were arrested that day.

There are Clifford Eugene Henry Jr., 22, of Glendora; Steven Robert Aguirre, 21; and Jonathan Carl Jarrell, 24, both transients.

The are charged with unlawfully setting timber afire, a felony punishable by up to 5 years in federal prison.

They were expected to make their first appearance in court this morning (Wednesday).

One civilian and two firefighters were injured.

The fire was 98 percent contained this morning, after burning more than 1,952 acres.
