CHICAGO (CN) - Chicago police shot a dog to death for no reason after breaking down a couple's door, the couple claim in court.
Fernando and Darnell Mallett sued Chicago and its police Officers Daniel Kasper and Brian Nunes, in Federal Court.
They claim the cops broke down their door without knocking to execute a search warrant in September 2013.
"There was no legal cause for them to do this," the Malletts say in the lawsuit.
"One or more of the individual defendants shot their weapon(s) in plaintiffs' immediate vicinity.
"They did so without legal cause.
"One or more of the individual defendants shot plaintiffs' dog.
"They did so without legal cause.
"One or more of the individual defendants took the dying dog.
"They did so without legal cause.
"One or more of the individual defendants also seized plaintiffs' other dogs from plaintiffs."
The Malletts seek punitive damages for unlawful search and seizure and excessive force.
