Rapper The Game Appeals Battery Accuser’s $7.1M Award

CHICAGO (CN) – Rapper Jayceon “The Game” Taylor will appeal a jury’s verdict ordering him to pay $7.1 million to a former contestant on his reality dating show who accused him of sexual battery.

Priscilla Rainey sued Jayceon Terrell Taylor aka “The Game” for $10 million in August 2015 for a battery claim.

Rainey was a contestant on Taylor’s dating reality show called “She’s Got Game” that aired on VH1.

In the 10-episode show, 10 of Taylor’s friends are asked to pick a woman they believe will be his perfect match. The women went on tour with Taylor, and each episode ends with a woman going home.

Days before the show’s premier, Rainey filed her lawsuit accusing Taylor of sexually assaulting her while taking her on an “after-hours date” that she was misled to believe was part of the show.

She claimed Taylor took her to Adrianna’s Sportsbar in Markham, Ill., where he was “out of control, highly intoxicated on alcohol and drugs (which was typical), and sexually assaulted plaintiff on several occasions that night. This included him forcefully reaching his hand inside her dress to rub her bare vagina and buttocks,” according to her complaint. (Parentheses in original.)

Rainey was sent home in episode six of the show.

After a four-day trial, which Taylor tried to delay last minute on claims of a severe tooth infection, a jury ruled for Rainey in November and ordered Taylor to pay $7.1 million.

Taylor filed a notice of appeal with the Seventh Circuit on Thursday. The court has not yet indicated when it will hear the appeal.

“The Game” has a troubled legal history. He was charged with second-degree assault in 2005, and with felony firearms violations in 2007.

Two lawsuits in 2015 accused him of assault. One complaint was filed by a rookie cop, and one by a process server who says the rapper attacked him while he tried to serve him with the police officer’s complaint.
