SAN DIEGO (CN) - A company humiliated a sales rep by firing him via speaker phone in a crowded Starbucks, then confiscated his company car, leaving him stranded, the man claims in court.
Robert Levangie sued SMC Corporation of America and three of its officers, in Superior Court.
Levangie claims he was a top salesman for 17 years for SMC, which sells machine parts, until he suffered a concussion and severe head trauma in an auto accident.
He claims that after his concussion all of his major clients were stripped from him and he was assigned to an under-performing territory.
A year later, he says, he was asked to meet SMC management at a busy Starbucks to which Levangie drove a company car.
There, he says, a woman from the human resources department fired him over speakerphone.
SMC then took the company car and left him stranded, he says.
He seeks damages for disability discrimination, wrongful termination, infliction of emotional distress and other charges.
