ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Election Board said it received an absentee ballot for the Feb. 5 primary from a woman who has been dead since October. Election officials said they believe the woman's son is behind the fraud and have turned the matter over to the Department of Justice.
Scott Leiendecker, the Republican director of the St. Louis Election Board, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the ballot was just one of 2,000 absentee ballots cast. Leiendecker would not say if the ballot came from a Democrat or Republican, nor which candidate it was for. He said this case is proof that the city's system to catch voter fraud is working.
The city has recently indicted 11 people on charges of voter fraud.
