AUSTIN (CN) - After customers buy a digital camera or electronic equipment on the Internet, Starlight Camera & Video dba The Digital Nerds and Techon Digital uses "underhanded tactics" in an "aggressive, high pressure attempt to upsell consumers with additional, overpriced accessories," Texas claims in Travis County Court. The state sued Broadway Photo in a similar complaint.
The state demands an injunction and $20,000 penalties for each violation of deceptive trade laws.
Defendants in both cases are based in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Broadway has operated through a string of Web sites, including broadwayphoto.com, amphotoworld.com, digitalliquidators.com, preferredphoto.com, wilddigital.com, and milleniumcamers.com.
Starlight does business through techondigital.com and thedigitalnerds.com, and also has operated as Wawa Digital, Digital World, Accessories Land, Stargate Photo, and The Digital Expo.
