DALLAS (CN) - The Texas Youth Commission systematically assaults children in its care, encourages employees and other inmates to assault them, fails to follow its own regulations, hires unqualified and uncredentialed "therapists" who do not know what they are doing and require their "patients" only to memorize a script, forces kids to "confess" to imaginary offenses on pain of lengthening their already indeterminate sentence, and otherwise violate children's civil rights, two kids, now 18, claim in Federal Court. One says a TYC guard beat him unconscious and broke his knee; the other says a guard choked him into unconsciousness, called him a "nigger" and threatened to hang him. See complaint.
