AUSTIN, Texas (CN) - Voting mostly along party lines, the Texas House of Representative voted 107-42 on Monday to force women who seek an abortion to have an ultrasound probe inserted into their uterus at least 24 hours ahead of time. The bill applies to sexual assault victims too.
The Texas Senate has passed its own version of the bill. The two versions must be reconciled before going to Gov. Rick Perry for signature.
A few Democrats voted for the abortion bill in the state House.
Texas is facing a budget deficit as large as $27 billion.
