BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CN) - North Shore Hospital can remove the breathing tubes that have been keeping 28-year-old woman alive against her wishes because of her parents' religious beliefs, an appeals court ruled.
Grace Sung Eun Lee told a New York Daily News reporter, "I want to die," to end her painful struggle with inoperable brain cancer that left her paralyzed from the neck down and on life support.
Her devout Christian parents believe that removing her from life support would be suicide and lead to her punishment in the afterlife.
When Nassau County Supreme Court overruled them a week ago, the family appealed the decision.
Four judges from the Second Department of New York State's Court of Appeals denied their appeal Friday, without explanation, in an unsigned order.
