Teller Embezzled $10K a Month for 13 Years

SAN DIEGO (CN) - A bank teller who embezzled $10,000 a month for 13 years from a U.S. credit union in Japan was sentenced Monday to 38 months in federal prison and ordered to repay the $1.5 million she stole right out of the vault.

Leticia Figuracion stole the money from the USA Federal Credit Union vault on Yokota, Japan, and sent some f it to relatives in The Philippines and the United States, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office and reports on the case.

In sentencing her, U.S. District Judge John Houston gave her credit, so to speak, "for coming forward and self-reporting her Embezzlement," the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

The San Diego-based credit union has offices in San Diego, Riverside, Las Vegas, Japan and Korea, according to its Web page.

On its home page, under a picture of a dog, the credit union page proudly proclaims: "USA Fed's got all the stuff those big bad banks do, except there's no fat cats putting their grubby little paws all over your money."
