Teamsters Boss Admits He Embezzled

SANTA ANA, Calif. (CN) - The former treasurer of a Fullerton branch of the Teamsters pleaded guilty this week to felony counts of embezzlement and tax fraud.

Fred W. Correll, 79, of Fullerton, was secretary-treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Graphic Communications Conference, District Council Number 2 from 1970 until he resigned in 2011.

He admitted he embezzled $10,000 from the union in 2009 and filed a false tax return for that year, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

He faces up to 8 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 at his Aug. 4 sentencing.
