Teacher Fired for Stalking Can’t Get Unemployment

(CN) - A former teacher, arrested for assault, stalking and burglary after the breakup of a 16-year relationship, cannot receive uninsurance benefits, a Kentucky appeals court ruled.

In April 2007, Carolyn Hutchison was arrested for terroristic threatening, assault and burglary.

One week after the Jefferson County Board of Education reassigned Hutchison, and Hutchison pleaded guilty to lesser charges, the teacher was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, stalking and not illuminating the headlights on her vehicle. These actions were also connected to the breakup, and the school board fired Hutchison in November.

The Jefferson Circuit Court found that Hutchison was properly denied uninsurance benefits, and Judge Glenn Acree affirmed, finding that Hutchison's conduct was unbecoming of a teacher even if it did not involve other teachers or students.
