WASHINGTON (CN) – The Internal Revenue Service has issued regulations prohibiting tax preparers from sharing certain tax return information without taxpayer consent. The information may not be disclosed or used as of Jan. 1, 2009. The new rules also clarify that “tax preparers” include tax preparation software companies that receive information when purchases are registered.
