An appeals court in Michigan vacated a ruling against a man cited for spearfishing in a closed stream who says the charges should be dismissed because he is a member of an Indian tribe that was granted hunting and fishing rights in treaties with the U.S. government. The man is given an opportunity to prove his tribe is a “political successor” to the tribe that signed an 1836 treaty.
