Twin Peaks Shootout

In a case stemming from a shootout at a Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco, Texas, in 2015, a federal court granted McLennon County, its district attorney, and two Department of Public Safety agents’ motion to dismiss a suit brought by motorcycle club members who claim the defendants violated their rights by obtaining arrest warrants based on a fill-in-the-name affidavit that lacked probable cause.

Stand Your Ground

A Florida appeals court ruled that murder charges should have been dismissed against a defendant who shot and killed a man who had instigated a car chase that ended in a parking lot and began banging on the window of the defendant’s truck while yelling threats. The defendant is entitled to “Stand Your Ground” immunity.

Warren, Buttigieg Sued for $265M Over Trayvon Martin Tweets

George Zimmerman, the Florida man acquitted of murder after killing unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012, filed a $265 million lawsuit against Democratic presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg over tweets they posted on what would have been Martin’s 25th birthday.
