A court did not violate a defendant’s civil rights by considering his association with an Amish community when it sentenced him to prison for sexually assaulting family members when he was a minor, an appeals court in Wisconsin ruled. One of the court’s reasons for sentencing the defendant to prison was to encourage interventions by adults in the community to protect girls from assaults by family members.

Admissions Scam

A federal court in Massachusetts denied Mossimo Giannulli’s request for compassionate release from his five-month prison sentence. Giannulli, who, along with his wife Lori Loughlin, pleaded guilty to participating in a college admissions scam, asked the court to modify his sentence to home confinement because of the “harsh conditions” imposed in prison to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
