A federal court in New Mexico ruled against trampoline facilities challenging Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Covid-19-related orders restricting their operations. Although the companies may have suffered “irreparable” injuries and are at risk of permanent closure, an injunction requiring the state to allow them to reopen would “be adverse to the public interest.”

Judicial Appointment

The Iowa Supreme Court upheld Governor Kim Reynolds’ 2018 appointment of district court judge, which was challenged by a private citizen who claimed the governor missed her 30-day deadline to make the decision. The governor informed her chief of staff of the decision on the 30th day but did not inform the nominees or the secretary of state that day. The chief justice accepted the governor’s view that the appointment was timely.

Wisconsin Republicans on Thursday abruptly dropped plans to terminate a public health emergency the Democratic governor declared over the coronavirus pandemic when it came to light that millions of dollars in federal food stamp funds would be jeopardized if they went through with it.
