The Eighth Circuit upheld a ruling in favor of Iowa Department of Corrections and Iowa State Penitentiary officials on an inmate’s claims they violated his First Amendment right to freely exercise his Hebrew Israelite religion by refusing to supply him with kosher meals during Passover and Sukkot while he was being held in an administrative segregation unit.

Race-Based Harassment

Two former correctional officers may pursue part of their civil rights lawsuit against the Texas Department of Criminal Justice over claims they were unjustifiably fired after they complained about “race-based police harassment” they experienced during back-to-back traffic stops while they were on their way to work, a federal court in the state ruled.
