ST. LOUIS (CN) - St. Louis Rams linebacker David Vobora claims he failed a steroid test because a diet supplement company sold him tainted goods. Vobora sued Alabama-based S.W.A.T.S., (Sports With Alternatives To Steroids) and its owner, Mitch Ross, in Federal Court.
Vobora had finally cracked the Rams starting lineup when the NFL announced he had failed the drug test. Vobora says he got the supplement from Fultondale, Ala.-based S.W.A.T.S.
After failing the test, Vobora says, he sent the supplement to a lab for testing, and it came back positive for steroids.
"As a result of his suspension, plaintiff David Vobora missed four important games for the St. Louis Rams during the 2009 regular season," the complaint states. "In addition, he has suffered a loss of income derived from football-related endorsements and performance incentives. Furthermore, Plaintiff's reputation is permanently tarnished."
Vobora seeks damages for breach of warranty and product liability. He is represented by Howard Jacobs of Westlake Village, Cal.
Vobora is known for being "Mr. Irrelevant" in the 2008 NFL Draft - meaning he was the last player chosen. But in 3 years, he ascended to a starting position and had 15 tackles in three games before he was suspended last year.
