Supreme Court Clears Way for Chrysler Sale

(CN) - The U.S Supreme Court refused to intervene in the Chrysler bankruptcy settlement Tuesday. In a brief order declining to grant a stay in the sale of the carmaker to Fiat, the court said that a group of Indiana pension funds had not convinced them to get involved.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg threw a wrench into what had been a smooth process on Monday when she granted a temporary stay to groups opposed to the terms of the bankruptcy.

The court said that it was not making "a decision on the merits of the underlying legal issues" of the case, but that the pension funds had not "met that burden" of proof required for the court to intervene.
