LOS ANGELES (CN) - Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was charged Monday with murder after last week's fatal hit-and-run in a Compton parking lot, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.
The Death Row Records founder faces life in state prison under California's three strikes law if convicted on one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two counts of hit-and-run.
Knight, 49, is expected to appear before a Superior Court judge Tuesday in Compton. He is being held without bail.
On Thursday night, Knight allegedly ran over two men with his pickup at a restaurant parking lot close to a film set, killing one and injuring the other. Terry Carter, 55, was killed, authorities say. Knight allegedly fled from the scene.
Knight has claimed that he accidentally ran over the men while trying to flee from an attack, according to his attorney James Blatt.
Prosecutors charged Knight with committing a "serious and violent felony" while out on bail in a separate robbery case. In that case, Knight is accused of stealing a photographer's camera along with actor-comedian Katt Williams, 43.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case.
