BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CN) - U.S. Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch has reportedly tapped a former fellow prosecutor to be the Eastern District of New York's No. 2 as she awaits Senate confirmation.
Lynch nominated Kelly Currie, who worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in Brooklyn from 1999 to 2010. Currie has spent the last four years in private practice with Crowell Moring in New York, according to his bio on the firm's website.
It was in 2010 meanwhile that President Barack Obama tapped Lynch to serve as Brooklyn's U.S. attorney. Lynch had served as head of the office from 1999 to 2001 as well, appointed by President Bill Clinton.
Lynch's latest appointment by Obama puts her on deck to be the nation's first black female attorney general, if Congress endorses her to replace Eric Holder, who announced his resignation in September.
Currie says in his bio that he is a trial lawyer who focuses on "securities and wire fraud, money laundering, international terrorist financing, multi-defendant [racketeering] prosecutions and tax fraud."
He said he has tried more than 15 trials before federal juries and argued almost as many before the 2nd Circuit.
Previous titles for Currie include deputy chief of the Eastern District's Criminal Division, where he oversaw 100 assistant U.S. attorneys.
Currie attended Virginia School of Law, according to his bio.
