EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (CN) - A former Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville student accused of making a terrorist threat cannot be held without bail, a Madison County judge ruled.
Olutosin Oduwole, 23, was charged in July 2007 with making a terrorist threat after campus police found a note in his car that threatened a murderous rampage similar to the Virginia Tech shootings unless he received $50,000.
Oduwole claimed the message was merely rap lyrics he had written, not a threat.
Oduwole's $1.1 million bail was revoked after police said he tried to buy a semiautomatic handgun in October without reporting the charges on the application. Associate Judge Richard Tognarelli upheld Oduwole's appeal of the bond revocation. A court date to decide Oduwole's bail has not been set.
