The mysterious Stonehenge shivers in the pale winter sun on a freezing morning in January 2019. The prehistoric monument near Salisbury, England, dates to as early as 3100 B.C., though archaeologists believe the stones were raised between 2400 and 2200 B.C. The purpose of the monument and the area around it remains hotly debated, but likely had great astronomical and burial significance as far back as the Mesolithic era.
