MANHATTAN (CN) – The heirs of photographer Philippe Halsman say the Howard Greenberg Gallery on East 57th Street lost or allowed 41 photos of Salvador Dali works worth $684,000 to be stolen from a show.
Philippe Halsman (1906-79) created the works with Dali, according to the federal complaint. Halsman’s widow, Yvonne, also a photographer, consigned the works to Howard Greenberg and his gallery aka Photofind Gallery for a show in February and March 2004. After the show, the gallery told the Halsman heirs that 44 consigned works had been stolen, 41 of them Halsman/Dali works.
The Halsmans’ daughter and grandchildren say the stolen works were worth $684,000. They are represented by David Bruce Wolf with Cowan Debaets Abrahams.
