WASHINGTON (CN) - Selling a stolen car across state lines may be a little more difficult as the Department of Justice now requires all states to participate in the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, creating a national network able to determine the status of any car in the nation.
Junk yards, salvage yards and insurance carriers are required to file monthly inventories with the states complete with vehicle identification number, date the vehicle was acquired, the name of the previous owner and either a certification that the vehicle was crushed, or the name of the new owner.
