PHOENIX (CN) - Taser International won a contract with the City of Chicago by falsely claiming that people zapped by Stinger Systems guns "reported a much lower lever of incapacitation" than when zapped with Tasers, Stinger claims in Federal Court.
Stinger claims that it no longer sells the S-200 zap gun, to which Taser referred in its allegedly false advertising. It claims that its new and improved Stinger gun is "much improved," and that the National Institute of Justice study that Taser cited in its product comparisons, admits this.
Stinger claims, "Notwithstanding notification that the NIJ Study is not accurate with regard to the Stinger S200 as it is currently designed, Taser continues to republish the preliminary study to customers and potential customers, including the Chicago Police Department. Consequently, even though Stinger was the low bidder to the City of Chicago, the NIJ letter was cited as a basis for not awarding the contract to Stinger."
Stinger claims its S-200 is just as incapacitating as the Taser X26. It demands damages for false advertising, unfair competition and injurious falsehood.
