Sticky Fingers Alleged at ‘The Bachelor’

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A lead accountant for the production company behind "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" embezzled $600,000 from company accounts, AND Syndicated Productions claims in Superior Court.

AND, of Burbank, sued Iain Anderson, whom it says was its lead production accountant on several of its shows, including "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette."

AND claims that it discovered in 2011 that Anderson had "converted to his own possession at least $600,000 in AND's funds and concealed his acts of conversion."

It claims he did this "through a series of bogus transactions, and corresponding false accounting records, that concealed the true nature of his activities. Anderson's acts included, but were not limited to: (i) requesting petty cash advances for bogus production-related costs and recording corresponding false entries; (ii) commingling production funds with funds in his personal bank accounts; (iii) using an accrual account intended for temporary holiday related payroll, resulting in several unreconciled and outstanding balances within and across productions; and (iv) other acts of conversion."

AND claims that when it asked him about this, "Anderson was unable to provide a reasonable explanation regarding any of these issues. He admitted, however, that he routinely deposited AND's petty cash into his personal bank accounts, but he refused to provide AND with a full accounting for those deposits."

AND demands at least $600,000 in restitution, an accounting, attorneys fees, and punitive damages for conversion, money had and received, and breach of duty of loyalty. It is represented by Christopher Caldwell, with Caldwell Leslie & Proctor.
