State High Court Can’t Force Legislature To Act

BOSTON (CN) - The Massachusetts Supreme Court said it lacks the authority to force the state Legislature to act on a proposed amendment that would make health insurance available to all Massachusetts residents. "The only remedy provided in the constitution for the failure of a joint session to act on an initiative amendment lies in the hands of the governor," the ruling states.

The court remanded with directions to dismiss.
