EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The State of Illinois demands $864,000 for the widow of a road worker who was killed by a speeding motorist. State employee Henry Heath was killed while working traffic control on Illinois Route 162 in April 2006, when Garrett Stearns, driving a truck for Commercial Lawn Irrigation, fatally struck him, the state claims in Madison County Court.
The state claims Stearns was speeding and did not keep a proper lookout. Illinois demands $8,000 for burial expenses, $65,658 for compensation to Heath's widow and $790,754 in additional compensation to the widow for lost income through 2031. Stearns, Commercial Lawn Irrigation and Commercial Lawn owner Bryan Grammer are named as defendants.
