ST. LOUIS (CN) - The Missouri attorney general says two debt collectors violated a slew of state laws. Portfolio Recovery Associates and Professional Debt Management try to collect debts beyond the statute of limitations, refuse to identify themselves as debt collectors, try to collect on accounts that have been paid or discharged in bankruptcy, and threaten legal actions that cannot be taken, the state says.
Attorney General Chris Koster seeks a $1,000 fine for each violation and injunctions, in separate complaints in St. Louis City Court.
