State Colludes In Coal Mine’s|Massive Pollution, Groups Say

HUNTINGTON, W. VA. (CN) – A suit by the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition accuses West Virginia’s environmental agency of colluding with the coal industry to avoid enforcement of the Clean Water Act, allowing Hobet Mining to release selenium into the water system more than 7,000 times. The environmental coalition says the pollution should have resulted in fines totalling $98.8 million.
