State Ban On Internet Gambling Upheld

SEATTLE (CN) - All bets are off for Washington state Internet poker players after King County Superior Court Mary Roberts upheld the state's ban on online gambling.

Lee Rousso, a member of the Poker Players Alliance, filed suit last year in King County Court claiming that the new felony provision to the law passed in 1973 was "cruel and unusual punishment" and benefited only Washington State's numerous casinos. Rousso also argued that the ban violates the Commerce Clause on the Constitution.

Judge Roberts disagreed and dismissed the case with prejudice. Rousso says he intends to take the case to the state Supreme Court.
