SEATTLE (CN) - Starbucks compromised the financial information of 97,000 employees by allowing a laptop computer to be stolen with unencrypted information about them, a class action claims in Federal Court.
The computer was swiped on Oct. 29, 2008 "from an unspecified location," the complaint states, "but according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture '[a] laptop containing personal information was stolen from the corporate facility.'"
The complaint says that Starbuck's employs 176,000 people worldwide in 7,463 outlets. Of those, 143,000 work in 4,329 outlets in the United States.
The class demands credit monitoring and credit insurance for 5 years, and other relief. Lead counsel is Lynn Lincoln Sarko with Keller Rohrback.
