St. Louis Cardinals Accused Of Error

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals negligently displayed a message on its electronic billboard stating that a girl had a sexually transmitted disease, the high school student claims in City Court. The unidentified plaintiff says she was at a Cardinals game with her class on May 18, 2006, when a classmate called the Cardinals' electronic message board with a text message that stated the plaintiff "has an STD! Eww!" The message allegedly was displayed at 2:33 p.m. in front of 48,000 Cardinals fans.

The plaintiff said the Cardinals approved the message before it went on the board. She says she has never had a sexually transmitted disease and was forced to stay out of school for the rest of the school year and take her finals in a separate building to avoid the ridicule of other students. She says she lost friends and had to see a psychologist to help her deal with the traumatic incident. She is represented by Bob Perica of Wood River, Ill. See complaint.
