WASHINGTON (CN) - The marron bacora is endangered and should be protected under the Endangered Species Act but doing so is precluded by higher priority listings, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The marron bacora is a thornless flowering shrub native to the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are only 200 individuals of the flowering shrub known to exist in the wild.
Marron bacora will be added to the list of candidate species maintained by the agency for species it has found warrant protection under the act but which can not be listed because of higher priority listings and budget limitations in the current fiscal year.
