Sports Agent Admits Embezzlement

ST. LOUIS (CN) - A Honolulu sports agent pleaded guilty to a federal charge of embezzling from a golf sponsor. Andrew W. Moss, 26, and his agency, Onyx Sports Group, represented aspiring professional golfer Scott Yancey, who became well known from the TV show "The Big Break II" on the Golf Channel, court papers state.

Prosecutors say Moss told one of Yancey's sponsors to wire $50,000 to a bank account in Hawaii that Moss had set up to pay Yancey's expenses. After wiring the money on June 11, 2008, the company repeatedly asked Yancey about the money paid to Moss and when Yancey told them he never received the money, the sponsor demanded a refund from Moss, court papers state.

Prosecutors say Moss used the money for personal expenses. Moss allegedly obtained the sponsor's bank account information while wiring them a $10,000 refund, which he used to withdraw an additional $21,000 to make a total of $61,000 that he obtained from the sponsor.

Moss faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines at his June 13 sentencing.
