TUCSON (CN) - South Tucson and the ACLU signed a settlement agreement on the city's immigration enforcement policies, after a student accused it of racial profiling last year.
South Tucson is an enclave that has been swallowed by Tucson. Its police arrested and transferred student Alex Valenzuela to the Border Patrol without accusing him of any crime.
"These illegal practices are common in Arizona as a result of the 'show me your papers' provision of SB 1070, which went into effect in September 2012, the ACLU said in a statement announcing the settlement.
The ACLU filed a notice of claim against South Tucson, which has been resolved by the settlement.
The 4-page settlement agreement was signed by the mayor of South Tucson.
