Songwriter Says Strait Swiped His Tune

NASHVILLE (CN) - George Strait's tune "Texas" was swiped from Steve Lawhon's ditty, "If It Weren't For Texas," Lawhon claims in Federal Court. Lawhon says he copyrighted his tune in January 2005 and sent it to Strait.

The hit album by Strait, "Somewhere Down in Texas," was released in June 2005 and credited the tune to co-defendants Steven Jones and Phillip White dba Texbama Music.
