WASHINGTON (CN) - The top 3 inches of certain fire seals in the mechanics of some Boeing Company Model 737 airplanes are not fireproof, according to an Airworthiness Directive issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The directive requires a one-time inspection to determine the part numbers of the aero/fire seals of the blocker doors on the thrust reverser torque boxes on the engines, and replacing affected ones with new, improved seals.
The seals are meant to keep fire in the fan compartment from a flammable fluid in the thrust reverser actuator compartment, which could result in an uncontrolled fire, according to the FAA directive.
Boeing Models 737-600, -700, -700C, -800, -900, and -900ER series airplanes must be inspected for the problem, according to the directive.
