RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CN) - A San Bernardino police officer faces up to life in prison after being convicted Wednesday of forcing two women to perform sex acts on him while he was in uniform.
Jose Jesus Perez, 46, of Menifee, was convicted of two felony counts of deprivation of rights under color of law. The jury found that both offenses involved aggravated sexual abuse, and that one involved kidnapping and bodily injury, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Perez will be sentenced on Aug. 18. He has been in jail since he was arrested in September in Texas.
"The two victims testified about Perez forcing them to have sex in vehicles and hotel rooms," the U.S. attorney said in a statement. "A third woman testified that Perez had aggressively solicited sex from her while he was in uniform. The three women each testified that they feared repercussions if they did not comply with Perez's demands."
Perez worked for the Los Angeles Police Department from 1997 until 2008, when he went to work for the San Bernardino Police Department.
