Snackmasters Wins Trademark Fight

CHICAGO (CN) - A federal judge awarded Snackmasters more than $354,000, including $281,000 in attorney's fees, for costs of a trademark suit filed by Hickory Farms, which claimed Snackmasters violated its trademarks for "Beef Stick" and "Turkey Stick." Snackmasters filed a counterclaim, and won declaratory judgment stating that both marks are generic, and the "Beef Stick" trademark should be canceled.

Hickory Farms objected to several aspects of Snackmasters' fee request and sought to have it reduced by $65,000. But Judge Matthew F. Kennelly ruled for Snackmasters on all but one of Hickory Farms' objections.
