Singer Took the Money & Ran, Promoter Says

ATLANTA, Ga. (CN) - R&B singer Ne-Yo took the money but missed the concert, and he blew off the make-up concert too, a concert promoter says in Fulton County Superior Court.

Ne-Yo (Shaffer C. Smith) missed his day-after Christmas show in Port of Spain, Trinidad in 2008, Tri-Star Promotions says. The show was rescheduled for April 11, 2009 and Ne-Yo missed that one too, Tri-Star says.

Tri-Star says it had sold 6,750 tickets for the make-up concert, and Ne-Yo and his booking and management company got a $130,000 performance fee and $65,000 for booking.

It cost $409,970 to schedule the make-up show, Tri-Star says.

It wants $709,977 and court costs, for breach of the performance agreement.

Also named as defendants are Troy M. "Fats" Byam dba BBM Booking and Management, and Raheen S. Gilchrist.

Roy Maharaj dba Tri-Star Promotions Limited is represented by Tanya Mitchell Graham of Snellville, Ga.
