INDIANAPOLIS (CN) - Using coal and oil, Duke Energy and Cinergy operate the Edwardsport Generating Station without permits and in violation of the Clean Air Act, fouling the air with sulfuric acid mist, according to a suit filed by the Sierra Club.
The defendants operate the plant without the best available technology, and without meeting emissions standards, says the Sierra Club. The plant pollutes the air with sulfuric acid mist, particulates, sulfur dioxide and other noxious gases, the complaint states. Plaintiffs want the plant shut down until it complies with the Clean Air Act.
