Sick Woman Says Laser Center Duped Her

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (CN) - American Laser Centers offered a "free skin treatment" to an 82-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer's, then pressured her into paying $2,325 for "a series of treatments" at 23 percent interest, through a credit card issued by co-defendant MedChoice Financial, the woman and her husband claim in Washtenaw County Court.

The woman says she "consulted with defendant Centers after receiving an advertisement for (1) free skin treatment, but during this initial visit she was quoted a price of $2,325.00 for a series of skin treatments that would take place over a significant period of time."

She says she "was handed several documents to sign before treatment could begin, which unbeknownst to her at the time, included an agreement that she would pay for the cost of treatment by signing up for a credit card provided by Defendant MedChoice Financial ('MedChoice') through Defendant Centers."

She claims her treatment "consisted essentially of rubbing cream on (her) face." She canceled the deal, but says the defendants told her the entire $2,325, plus 22.98 percent interest "was non refundable and would be her responsibility."

She says she "attempted to work out a resolution with defendants, both on her own and through counsel, but defendants have refused to cancel the debt or recognize the fraud perpetrated upon (her)."

She seeks rescission and damages for fraud, unconscionable contract, consumer law violations and abuse of a vulnerable adult. She is represented by James Fifelski of Ypsilanti.
