ATLANTA (CN) - A mother claims her daughter nearly died of a bite from a poisonous spider the girl's elementary teacher brought to school for show and tell.
Diandra Jones sued Brookview Elementary School, the Fulton County School District and teacher April Kim, in Fulton County Superior Court.
Jones claims her 6-year-old daughter was bitten by the spider Jones brought to school for show and tell on Dec. 9, 2009.
The complaint does not state what kind of spider it was, only that it was poisonous.
Jones claims that when she picked her daughter up from school that day, she noticed that "swelling and paleness had overcome her daughter." She went into the school to ask what had happened.
After speaking with her daughter and several faculty members, Jones says, she discovered that her daughter had been bitten by the spider that Kim brought to the school.
Jones rushed her to the hospital, where she says the girl was hospitalized "for months" and "at one point was given a 50 percent chance of survival."
She says her daughter "still experiences severe side effects which are expected to accompany her for the rest of her life."
Jones who seeks damages for pain and suffering and for medical bills.
