WASHINGTON (CN) - More ships will be exempt from notifying the U.S. Coast Guard of arrival with dangerous cargo due to the dangerous cargo being mere residue from an earlier shipment.
Since 2005, only ships that had certain dangerous dry cargo residue were exempted from the requirement to notify the Coast Guard that a dangerous shipment was arriving. With the new rule, the residue exemption now also applies to certain bulk liquids and liquefied gases in residue quantities.
