Shannen Doherty Says Ex-Manager Snooped

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Actress Shannen Doherty says her former financial manager, already accused of mismanagement, also invaded her privacy by lying to get her confidential medical information.

Doherty, 44, sued financial management firm Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson last August, accusing the company of causing her to lose her health insurance coverage shortly before she was diagnosed with cancer.

Doherty filed another complaint on Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging the financial firm impersonated her to get her confidential medical information and health insurance billing history to help with its legal defense.

After she told the firm she intended to sue it last July, Doherty says the company directed Kimberly Gabay to contact the Screen Actors Guild Pension & Health Plan and falsely impersonate Doherty by providing her personal information, including her Social Security number, date of birth and phone number, to get her confidential medical information and insurance premium billing history.

Attached to Doherty's March 17 complaint are two digital audio discs of the conversations, in which Doherty says defendants Gabay and Otelia Boyd are recorded while impersonating Doherty and providing her private financial information.

Doherty says they intentionally used deception to intrude into her private medical matters, and their actions are "extreme, outrageous and highly offensive."

The actress is represented by Los Angeles attorney Devin McRae of Early Sullivan Wright Gizer & McRae. She seeks punitive, exemplary and compensatory damages, plus restitution for intrusion into private matters.

McRae said Gabay is a principle witness, but is now pleading the Fifth Amendment when asked about her conduct. Because Gabay now pleads the Fifth due to potentially illegal activity, McRae says it compromises Doherty's initial case, and he will seek terminating sanctions in that matter.

Doherty also filed a criminal complaint, which police are investigating, according to her civil lawsuit.

Named as defendants are Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson, accountant Brad Johnson, Gabay and Boyd. Johnson was not immediately available by telephone Friday morning.
